Computer Sciences - Payroll: Rates - FY20 Graduate Salary Rates

This document provides information on the academic year 2020 Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA) and Program/Project Assistants (PA), and Reader/Grader salary rates. It is typical that most Computer Science graduate student appointments are TAs at 50% time appointments, or RAs at 41%, 46% or 50% appointment.

The 2019-20 rates for the Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Program/Project Assistant, and PA Grader Reader positions. These rates go into effect July 1, 2019 for annual and hourly appointments and August 19, 2019 for academic year appointments.

Teaching Assistant-Senior

The distinction between TA-Standard and TA-Senior has been eliminated.  See the notes in the L&S Teaching Assistant and Project Assistant Appointment Letter Templates for more information and how this is handled in JEMS:

Head Teaching Assistant-Standard

Computer Sciences Academic 100% $48,400 (fixed rate)*

CAMPUS Academic 100% $40,000 (fixed rate)

* The department worked with the College of Letters and Sciences to make head TAs available to courses taught by Faculty Associates.  The idea is that you can identify a specific TA (1 per course) that you want to hire to help with course administration, hopefully but not necessarily for the whole year.  Head TAs are expected to have some different roles than Standard TAs, and in return earn higher pay.

To see more information on Head TA, see CS Internal KB: Computer Sciences - Teaching - Teaching Assistants.

Program/Project Assistant

Annual 100% $44,854 (minimum)

Academic 100% $36,700 (minimum)

Lecturer Student Assistant (LSA)

Academic 100% UNKNOWN

PA Grader Reader

Hourly Rate $21.57 (minimum) (Rate updated 07/01/2018)
