Forage Specialist - University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez

This is a 12-month contract that will be 75% extension (Puerto Rico Agricultural Extension Service) and 25 % research (Agricultural Experiment Station), available in the Agro-environmental Science Department, College of Agriculture Sciences, University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez. As Extension Forage Specialist (75%), extension programming in forage production will be conducted in close cooperation with other state-wide specialists and extension agents, with emphasis on electronic and distance education methods. Periodic in-service training programs will be delivered to keep extension agents and other agricultural professionals informed of current technology relating to forage crops and production practices. Applied and basic research (25%) on forage-livestock production interaction with the environment and ecosystem services, which may include studies on fertilization, irrigation, and conservation of forages, will be conducted and results published in refereed journals, and other appropriate media. The faculty member will actively seek grant funding to support his/her research program. The candidate will participate in the dissemination of educational material to customers using traditional and electronic media (training, curricular guides, direct consultation, electronic publications, etc.)
