Instructor or Assistant Professor, Full time, Anatomy and Physiology

Academic preparation includes a Master’s degree, minimum, for appointment. Professional degrees, such as the MD, are also considered acceptable preparation. Doctoral degree preparation is required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher. Teaching experience in anatomy, physiology, both classroom and laboratories is preferred. Experience with virtual laboratories for anatomy and physiology is preferred. Some teaching experience is required, either through prior teaching appointments or teaching experience gained during graduate study.

SUGGESTIONS FOR EVIDENCE OF EXCELLENCE OR MASTERY

The items in each category are suggestions of ways to demonstrate satisfactory performance.  Other items can be included; not all examples below must be addressed.  However, examples of performance in all areas must be documented.

 

TEACHING

1.            Respects and communicates the dignity, worth, and culture of students, faculty, colleagues, peers, staff, and communities.

3.            Adheres to state and federal laws (i.e., privacy, confidentiality, and reporting of student and patient information).

7.            Assumes teaching responsibilities for lecture and laboratory sections of anatomy and physiology.

8.            Provides physical and emotional environment conducive to effective teaching and learning.

9.            Available to students as appropriate for her/his teaching assignment needs.

10.          Uses a variety of methods to assist students in achieving course objectives for lecture and laboratory courses, including electronic-based teaching methods such as virtual laboratories.

11.          Maintains satisfactory agency-University relationship.

13.          Demonstrates ability to teach effectively in formal and informal teaching situations.

14.          Demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching.

15.          Maintains satisfactory working relationships with colleagues within the School of Nursing.

16.          Evaluates data from students and colleagues regarding own strengths and weaknesses for improvement of teaching.  Seeks consultation as needed.

21.          Updates skills and knowledge by attending workshops, classes, and symposia related to practice interest.

 

SCHOLARLY AND CREATIVE ENDEAVORS

1.            Respects and communicates the dignity, worth, and culture of students, faculty, colleagues, peers, staff, and communities.

2.            Maintains ethical standards of the profession and the University.

3.            Cites research in teaching and includes research references in bibliographies.

4.            Seeks to increase knowledge and skills in research by attending classes or seminars in which research is a major focus. 

5.            Is aware of the role of the Institutional Review Board for Protection of Human Subjects.

6.            Participates in projects relevant to content area of expertise.

 

SERVICE

1.            Respects and communicates the dignity, worth, and culture of students, faculty, colleagues, peers, staff, and communities.

2.            Maintains ethical standards of the profession and the University.

3.            Supports the mission of the University.

4.            Contributes to functioning of committees within the School.

5.            Participates in professional organization activities.
