Michigan State University: Instructional Consultant: Focus on Large Foundational Courses
The University of Michigan is engaged in a major, presidential initiative to support and transform foundational courses - those large courses that introduce students to a major or discipline. To this end, in January 2018, the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) launched the Foundational Course Initiative (FCI). In the FCI, CRLT consultants spend three years working with instructional teams to reimagine these courses and promote the success of all students.
The Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) at the University of Michigan invites applications for instructional consultants to join our Foundational Course Initiative
(FCI). Launched in January, 2018, this major, presidential initiative is designed to support and transform those large courses that introduce students to a major or discipline and create nationally recognized models for teaching and learning at scale. FCI consultants work closely with instructional teams over a period of multiple years to reimagine these courses and promote the success of all students, creating the inclusive community U-M aspires to in its third century. The work of the FCI is highly collaborative and team-based. It provides opportunities for motivated individuals to develop and implement new knowledge about teaching and learning at scale.
For this round of FCI expansion, CRLT seeks to welcome four new colleagues to our growing team. We hope to recruit individuals with training and work experience in at least one of the following four focus areas:
1) evidence-based instructional design
2) assessment of student learning and learning analytics
3) student support and creation of an inclusive and equitable classroom climate
4) selection and implementation of technologies to support teaching and learning at scale.
Candidates from groups historically underrepresented in faculty development are encouraged to apply.
These are 3-year, term appointments with possibility of renewal. For details about the positions, visit the CRLT website
