SA - 2026 Hardware Refresh Checklist
Overview of hardware refresh in 2026 in SA
Windows
- Imaging
- Use Rufus to create an imaging drive with the following options (you can use anything for the local account, but we already have a fixlet that will remove the "bucky" account)
- You will need to download storage and network drivers along with installers like Global Protect, BigFix, and Dell Command Update: 2026 Computer Refresh Files
- Install Windows 11 Enterprise
- For storage, use the drivers under: storage driver/Drivers/VMD
- Wipe all of the existing partitions via the Windows setup menu
- Rename computer to "SA-Serial"
- Software
- Install Global Protect (6.2.8.263)
- Install BigFix (S:\DoIT\Bigfix\client)
- Install .Net Desktop Runtime (8.0.26) and Dell Command Update (5.7 Universal)
- Run Dell Command Update
- Join to domain and move to the destination OU so group policy and BigFix things work correctly
- Create a backup node (must be done before deploying Spectrum baseline)
- Deploy the "DS - Software Deploy Baseline - Standard" baseline
- Deploy the "DS - Software Deploy Baseline - Deploy - IBM Spectrum Protect - 8.1.14" baseline
- Customer Setup
- Old Laptop
- Make note of any extra applications that will need to be installed (by either asking the customer or looking in BigFix)
- Make a backup of the user's browser settings (H-drive or encrypted USB storage)
- Make a backup of user profile folders: Documents/Desktop/Downloads (H-drive or encrypted USB storage)
- New Laptop
- Restore browser settings from backup
- Restore Documents/Desktop/Downloads from backup
- Ensure any non-standard apps are available
- Check printer mappings
- Ask if they want assistance with setting up Outlook and Adobe CC
- Configure Bitlocker with PIN
- If possible, remove the local user account you used during initial setup otherwise we'll take care of it via BigFix later
- Old Laptop
- Post-Setup
- Note in the Google sheet whether they held onto the laptop or we took it back
