Palo Alto GlobalProtect Departmental VPN Installation and Configuration (Windows)
- Checking if you already have GlobalProtect installed

Before installing GlobalProtect please search to see if it is already installed on your machine. If it is not proceed to installation steps. If it is follow the first time setup and connecting disconnecting steps.
- Installation
- 1.) In a browser, (safari, firefox or chrome are suggested), navigate to https://soe.vpn.wisc.edu/ and sign in with your SOE credentials. If you need assistance with your SOE credentials please call the MERIT Help Desk at 608 265-4773.
2.) After Logging in, click on “Download Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent”. This will download a Windows Installer Package file. Open this file from your designated downloads folder or from the browser's downloads.
3.) After clicking on the installer file from your downloads, follow the prompts clicking next and then close at the end. During installation it will prompt for administrator credentials.

- First Time Setup
4.) Once installed, click on the icon on the bottom right of your taskbar.
5.) Then you will type in "soe.vpn.wisc.edu" as shown below and click connect.

4.) Once installed, click on the icon on the bottom right of your taskbar.

- Connecting and Disconnecting
After following steps 1 through 5 the first time you use GlobalProtect on your machine, you can use the following directions to disconnect and connect from then on.
Connecting:
To connect, click on the icon from the taskbar and click connect. Then log in with your SOE credentials.
If you are using an older version you can log in by right clicking on the GlobalProtect icon, click connect, then log in with you SOE credentials as seen in the last two pictures above. When you log in with the older version it will prompt you to update. Click yes and update.
Once connected the icon on the taskbar will look like this:
Disconnecting:
To disconnect from the VPN you can click on the icon in the taskbar and click disconnect.
Older Version:
If you are using an older version you can disconnect by right clicking on the GlobalProtect icon and disconnect as seen in the picture on the right above.
