Commvault: Install Linux Data Agents

To prepare a computer to be backed up, install Commvault data agents. This document gives the steps to install the Commvault data agents on a Linux computer via the Commcell Console application.

Install Linux Data Agents

  1. Make a remote-desktop connection to the CV-CSMASTER host <144.92.160.94>.
  2. Run the "Commcell Console" application.
  3. Click the "Tools" tab at the top of the window.
  4. Chose "Add/Remove Software > Install Software" to start the Install Wizard.
    1. On the "Install Wizard" page…
      1. Read text.
      2. Click the "Next" button to advance.
    2. On the "Select computer's operating system" page…
      1. Choose...
        Unix and Linux
      2. Click the "Next" button to advance.
    3. On the "Select how to discover the computers for installing the software" page…
      1. Choose...
        Manually select computers
      2. Click the "Next" button to advance.
    4. On the "Enter the host names of the computers" page…
      1. Type the domain name of the target computer in the text field; one name per line. For example…
        dataviz.wcer.wisc.edu
      2. Click the "Next" button to advance.
    5. On the "Enter Account Information" page…
      1. Type the "User Name" field and its password in the "Password" and "Confirm Password" fields. For example...

      2. Click the "Next" button to advance.
    6. On the "Select Package(s) to Install" page...
      1. Choose...

      2. If needed, fill the "MySQL" or "PostgreSQL" checkboxes.
      3. Click the "Next" button to advance.
    7. On the "Enter Recommended Settings for the selected Software" page…
      1. Choose "All Servers" from the "Recommended Settings" list and click the "Add" button to include it in the "Selected" list.

    8. On the "Enter Additional Install Options" page…
      1. Accept defaults.
      2. Click the "Next" button to advance.
    9. On the "Unix Advance Options" page…
      1. Type "simpana" into the "Unix Group" field.

    10. On the "Optional Settings" page…
      1. Accept defaults.
      2. Click the "Next" button to advance.
    11. On the "Network Route Configuration" page…
      1. Accept defaults.
      2. Click the "Next" button to advance.
    12. On the "Please Select When To Run The Job" page…
      1. Accept the "Immediate" option under "Job Initiation".
      2. Click the "Next" button to advance.
    13. On the "Summary" page…
      1. Review the Summary.
      2. Click "Finish" to start the install.
  5. Follow the installation progress by clicking on the "Job Controller" tab in the Console.
    1. If install fails, check the "Delay Reason" column.
    2. If account login fails,…
      1. Check "root" login access and password by logging on with SSH.
      2. Verify that the domain name resolves, e.g., issue "nslookup DOMAIN".
