Commvault: Set Backup Schedule and Storage Policies
To prepare a computer to be backed up, install Commvault data agents. This document gives the steps to set the backup schedule and storage policies for filesystem and database data agents. These steps usually follow the installation of data agents.
Commvault: Set Backup Schedule and Storage Policies
- RDP into CV-CSMaster <144.92.160.94>.
- Run the "Commcell Console" application.
File System
NOTE: Replace the placeholder [COMPUTER] with the name of a computer to which the policies are to be applied.- Choose a schedule policy.
- Expand the "Policies" list
- Select "Schedule Policy".
- Double-click on the "Windows/Unix" policy.
- Click the "Associations" tab and choose its "Edit" tab.
- Find the [COMPUTER] and fill its checkbox.
- Choose a storage policy.
- Expand the "Client Computers" list.
- Expand the [COMPUTER] to show the "File System", "defaultBackupSet", and "default" items.
- The "default" listing should report "Files_30Days" under the "Storage Policy" column.
- If not, double-click on the "default" icon.
- Click the "Storage Device" tab.
- Choose "Files_30Days" from the "Storage Policy" list.
- Click the "OK" button to save.
MySQL
- Choose a schedule policy.
- Expand the "Policies" list
- Select "Schedule Policy".
- Double-click on the "MySQL" policy.
- Click the "Associations" tab and choose its "Edit" tab.
- Find the [COMPUTER] and fill its checkbox.
- Choose a storage policy.
- Expand the "Client Computers" list.
- Expand the [COMPUTER] to view the "MySQL", [COMPUTER]_3306", "default" items.
- The listing should report "Storage Policy" as "Databases_30Days".
- If not, right-click "default", choose "Properties", click the "Storage Device" tab, choose "Databases_30Days" from the "Storage Policy" list, and click the "OK" button to save.
- Right-click on the "[COMPUTER]_3306" item and choose "Properties".
- Choose the "Accounts" tab, click on the "Change" button beside "SA User Name", and type MySQL user credentials.
- Username = [MYSQL-USER-NAME]
- Password = [MYSQL-USER-PASSWORD]
- Choose the "Storage Device" tab.
- Choose the "Command Line Backup" tab and pick "Databases_30Days" from the Storage Policy list.
- Choose the "Log Backup" tab and pick "Logs_7Days" from the Storage Policy list.
- Choose the "Accounts" tab, click on the "Change" button beside "SA User Name", and type MySQL user credentials.
Check Readiness
- Expand the "Client Computers" list.
- Right-click on the desired computer name.
- Choose "All Tasks > Check Readiness".
- It should report "Client Ready.
