Identifying your Operating System on a Mac

Here are the steps to identifying your current operating system on a Mac

An Operating System is like the theater that all your software runs within. Keeping your Operating System within a range of systems currently receiving security updates is important to device security, your security and the security of campus.

To find your current Apple Operating System:

On a MacBook, iMac, Mac Mini or Mac Studio:

  1. Login to your Mac
  2. Select the Apple icon in the upper left
  3. Select About This Mac
  4. A box with the OS the device is running along with serial number will appear

On an iPhone, Apple Watch or iPad:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select General
  3. Select About
  4. Locate iOS, WatchOS or iPadOS version
