VPN Options in the School of Education

Within the School of Education, users may connect to a Virtual Private Network to create a secure tunnel to campus resources. This document will describe the difference between the School of Education VPN and the UW Madison VPN

School of Education VPN

The School of Education VPN is a Virtual Private Network that is run by the School of Education. This network allows School of Education staff to access shared folders (often called "the S Drive") as well as create a private connection (traffic hidden from Internet Service Provider (ISP))

The School of Education VPN uses a School of Education username and password to create the connection.

UW Madison VPN

The UW Madison VPN is a Virtual Private Network that is run by DoIT. This network allows campus users to create a private connection that hides traffic from your ISP and creates a secure connection to any network based campus resources. For more information on the UW Madison VPN click here.

The UW Madison VPN uses a NetID and password and an MFA authentication code or push to create the connection.
