Describes the new look to our "please restart" notices
Windows and Mac computer restart notices will look different as of Monday, October 31 for all MERIT supported computers.
What we are trying to accomplish:
MERIT wants to reduce IT security risks, and protect our faculty, staff, and students’ intellectual property in addition to maintaining the most recent updates on the software we provide.
What MERIT is doing:
MERIT’s security team has implemented processes and controls that proactively identify, assess and manage technology vulnerabilities. Many of the procedures that we have implemented, as well as many application updates, require computer restarts in order to take effect.
How you can help:
We need your help to ensure all updates are installed by restarting your computers regularly - daily is recommended. MERIT is able to identify computers that require a restart, and we will help inform you of this by displaying a pop-up message on your computer. MERIT will be sending out these reminders to systems that require updates every two weeks.
The following pop up box titled “Restart Needed” will be displayed solely as REMINDER to restart (it will not restart your computer for you).
What you can do:
Select the “Take Action” button to dismiss this message. You will still need to manually restart your computer at a time that is convenient for you. If your computer is not fully up-to-date, you may need to restart it multiple times. A best practice is to restart your computer daily.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the MERIT Helpdesk at 608-265-4773 or email@example.com
