Using UTM parameters in Eloqua links
UTM parameters, or Urchin Tracking Module parameters, are customizable text snippets that are added to the end of a URL to track the performance of marketing campaigns and website traffic:
Purpose
UTM parameters help marketers track the effectiveness of online marketing campaigns across different traffic sources and publishing med
Components
UTM parameters consist of five components: utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, and utm_content.
Benefits
UTM parameters can help you answer questions like which email campaign brought in the most web traffic or which call-to-action on your web page generated more revenue.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics supports UTM parameters out of the box. Dimensions tracked via UTM codes appear in Google Analytics reports.
Custom UTM parameters
Custom UTM parameters are unique parameters outside of the main five. They can help you track a source, channel, or campaign beyond what the regular parameters can provide.
How to Use UTM Links within Eloqua:
1. Create individual/unique UTM links for each and every link you wish to track (outside of Eloqua). Ideally, you will have these ready on a document or note pad to cut/paste into your Eloqua email. [Google has a creation tool here:https://ga-dev-tools.google/campaign-url-builder/, or you can write your own parameters]
2. Highlight the text in your email or button (or whatever you'd like to link from in your email (or on your Landing Page).
3. Copy the full UTM link you created in step 1 and paste it into the "Hyperlink Properties" configuration panel in your Eloqua email.
For example:
Finally, do NOT "Enable 3rd party tracking" as that adds general UTM parameters from Eloqua's campus instance default, which would override your own.
