UW Madison Zoom

Description

Zoom is an enterprise cloud platform for video, voice, online meetings, screen sharing, chat and webinars. This enterprise web conferencing and distance learning application runs across mobile devices, desktops, telephones, and room systems.

Zoom is available via https://uwmadison.zoom.us
Log in to Zoom with your NetID and password

Application and Limitations

Non Credit Professional Development and Credit courses use Zoom differently.

Credit courses can use the Canvas Zoom integration. To view the suggested integration settings see:

Non Credit Professional Development learners can't access Zoom via the integration because they will be prompted to log in with a NetID and password. Zoom sessions should be set up on the UW Madison Zoom site and the link should be added to the Canvas welcome module. Please contact Online Support for assistance.

Some government and military clients are unable to use Zoom. Please contact Online Support for alternative tools.

Avoid these Pitfalls

  • Note: only authenticated users can view cloud recordings. Learners taking credit courses should make sure to log in with their NetID to view cloud recordings
  • Recordings that need to be shared with NCPD learners may need to be transferred to a different cloud service (eg Box or Kaltura)
  • Zoom recordings are only preserved on the Zoom cloud service for up to 150 days. If recordings should be preserved for longer than that, they should be transferred to a different cloud service (eg. Box or Kaltura). See this resource for more information: Zoom - Adding a Zoom Recording to Kaltura Mediaspace [UW-Madison].
  • A Zoom licensed NetID is required to be a host or alternate host of a UW Madison Zoom account. Instructors with manifest NetIDs (many of interPro's non credit instructors) may be promoted to co-host once the Zoom session begins. See more about host and co-host controls here: Host and co-host controls in a meeting
