InterPro - Online Learning - Tools & Technology - Accessing Canvas content on iOS devices
This page provides troubleshooting steps for learners or instructors having trouble accessing embedded course content on iOS devices
Certain versions of iOS block 3rd party cookies that allow content that uses iframes to load. This affects most content delivered to InterPro courses using Box.
When viewed in Chrome on a laptop, the page looks like this:
When viewed in Safari or Chrome for iOS devices, the same page looks like this:
There are several workarounds for this issue:
If you are using a device running iOS 12:
You will need to add a cookie to Safari to allow to load the page.
- Navigate to your Canvas course using Safari, and click on Modules to view your course navigation.
- Temporarily change your Cross-Site Tracking and Block All Cookies setting
- Open the Settings App.
- Go to Safari > Prevent Cross-Site Tracking.
- Make a note about what is currently selected in case you'd like to return to the original settings later.
- Turn off Prevent Cross-Site Tracking.
- Go to Safari > Block All Cookies
- Turn off Block All Cookies.
- Make a note about what is currently selected in case you'd like to return to the original settings later.
- Back in Safari, click the link to any page that contains embedded course information.
- Good options include the Syllabus, the Module/Week Overview, or a weekly video page.
- The embedded file should load. If the media loads, it means that the cookie has been added to Safari and is now allowed.
- Change your "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking" and "Block Cookies" setting back to its previous setting if that's your preference
- Open the Settings App.
- Go to Safari > Prevent Cross-Site Tracking. Turn Prevent Cross-Site Tracking back on if you prefer.
- Go to Safari > Block Cookies. Turn Block Cookies back on if you prefer.
If you are using a device running iPadOS or iOS13:
- Open the Settings App.
- Go to Safari > Prevent Cross-Site Tracking.
