Details on supporting the ISyE 415 manufacturing lab

Overview

Fall of 2023 will have 30 students across four sections (students per section will differ). Labs will be scheduled Monday thru Thursday for 3 weeks starting Monday, November 1st and ending Thursday November 18th . Lab times are 12:00pm-12:50pm. The students will do their inspection during their lab time after their parts are complete. Teamlab will provide calipers.

Before the semester starts:

TEAM Lab Responsibilities

  1. Order (x2 for two semesters worth) 3 ½” x 3 ½” x 10’ aluminum bar stock (if needed, confirm none left over stock from previous semester).
  2. Order 1” diameter aluminum round stock (if needed, check alpha/beta part stock).
  3. May confirm using latest version of MasterCAM (2023)
  4. Cut and square up stock (Done by TA's if time permits, otherwise by TEAM Lab staff. Time will be charged to course.)
  5. Reserve TRAK TMC 7 and Haas ST 15 in the Advanced CNC Lab.

ISyE 415 TA Responsibilities

     NOTE: Teamlab prostaff will run the machining portion of the labs due to time constraints with TAs getting the upgrades!

  1. Obtain a green permit along with CNC Mill 1,CNC Mill TRAK DPM2, CNC Mill 3 TRAK 2 op upgrades and CNC Mill 4 TMC Upgrade. It will take approximately 2 weeks for them to if they have none. 
  2. Obtaining the CNC lathe upgrade is encouraged. 
  3. Cut and square up stock (Done by TA's if time permits, otherwise by TEAM Lab staff)
  4. Program the cope, drag and core parts using MasterCAM (Can consult with professional staff with MasterCAM questions).
  5. Send programs to professional staff to verify and post. Program must meet the run time and TEAM Lab machining requirements.
  6. Practice machining the cope, drag and core parts. Verify time to set up and machine and the quality of the parts themselves. Parts need to be set up, run and finished in approximately 50 minutes.

Before lab starts:

TEAM Lab Responsibilities 

  1. Safety presentation to be given to students in their classroom (usually a week before lab starts).
  2. Teamlab Pro staff will set up and run programs for each group.
  3. Cope and Drag will be done on the Trak TMC 7 run by pro staff.
  4. The core will be done in the Haas ST-15 and run by pro staff.

ISyE 415 TA Responsibilities

  1. Send groups files to Teamlab staff to be verified and posted prior to that groups lab.
  2. Responsible for making sure all lab members swipe wiscard at the window.
  3. Will checkout safety glasses for lab members before the lab.
  4. Make sure all lab members for all Teamlab safety protocols before entering the CNC Lab.
