Hiring - Recruitment - Additional Wording for Job Postings

This document provides sample language for hiring managers to include in the request to fill (RTF) that will be included in the job posting.

Hiring Bonus

Do not list physical requirements that would be ‘nice to have’ – physical requirements must be relevant to the job and absolutely required.

Bilingual Required

  1. Unique Responsibility: Teaches and/or supports educational programming (in target language and English) and adapts educational approaches in a manner that are culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate for the audiences’ needs. (5% recommended).
  2. Required Qualification:  _____ speaking, writing and comprehension skills; knowledge and understanding of ____ culture. Language skills will be evaluated. 
  3. How to Apply: Since this is bilingual required, please submit English and ___ writing samples or other materials like videos or audio in which you are using the target language (___). Language skills will be evaluated during a language proficiency assessment in the interview process. The application reviewers will be relying on these application materials to determine who may advance to preliminary interviews. 

Bilingual Preferred

  1. Salary Details: This position has a bilingual preferred qualification. Upon the successful completion of a Language Proficiency Assessment, a ‘bilingual’ prefix will be added to the official title. The bilingual prefix is accompanied by a $3500.00 pay increase applied to the annual salary. 
  2. Job Summary: This position has a bilingual preferred qualification, which means a bilingual skill set is desired to bolster programming initiatives but is not required. A bilingual title designation and unique responsibility will be added to the final position description if the final candidate passes the language proficiency assessment. 
  3. Preferred Qualification: ____ speaking, writing and comprehension skills; knowledge and understanding of ____ culture. Language skills will be evaluated. 
  4. How to Apply: Bilingual candidates must state their interest in applying for the bilingual title designation within their application. Candidates that express interest in the bilingual title designation should submit English and ___ writing samples or other materials like videos or audio in which you are using the target language (___). Language skills will be evaluated during a language proficiency assessment in the interview process. 

A unique responsibility will be added to the final PD for bilingual preferred positions if the final candidate passes the language proficiency assessment. This does NOT need to be in the job posting. “Teaches and/or supports educational programming (in target language and English) and adapts educational approaches in a manner that are culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate for the audiences’ needs. Internal recruitments require additional justification to move forward. Please address the following in the Request to Fill.

  • Is there a unique skill set needed for the position that would only be found on campus (or in your division)? 
  • Why would an internal applicant provide a significant advantage or be critical to success in this new position?
  • Is there a diverse, qualified pool to apply for this position? Please elaborate.  
  • What efforts will be taken to ensure a diverse applicant pool?

  1. Experience working with college-going Native American students and/or students/families from backgrounds historically underrepresented in higher education. 
  2. In depth knowledge of tribal enrollment, tribal government, and the complexities associated with indigenous identity. 

  3. A person with strong connections with Tribal communities and/or organizations in the Great Lakes region. 

  4. Understanding of and experience working with Native Nations communities. 

  5. An individual who is recognized as a partner by tribal communities of Wisconsin or will be able to quickly develop relationships with the twelve American Indian Nations of Wisconsin. 

  6. Ability and understanding of Native Nations Governance and Sovereignty and ability to work with diverse tribes.
