Regarding public access and security for Science Hall
Science Hall is a publicly accessible building. This means that the building is open to members of the public during normal posted hours. Generally speaking, anyone would be permitted to come into the publicly accessible areas of the building.
This does not mean that an individual hasĀ carte blanche to go wherever or do whatever they want. For example, they are not entitled to be in a private office if they do not have business with the occupant of that office, or some other University-related business for which they need to be there. They are also not allowed to cause a disturbance or disruption to University business, nor cause harm to people or University property. Additionally, outside of the posted open hours, any person who does not have University related business in the building could be asked to leave or be removed. And especially - if a person is behaving in a way that causes someone to feel threatened or unsafe, they should be reported to UWPD.
UWPD recommends that if anyone findsĀ themself in a situation where they need assistance with a person in the building, they should contact the UWPD dispatch center at 608-264-2677. Or in an emergency situation or immediate threat to personal or property safety, call 911. There is additional contact information at https://uwpd.wisc.edu/about-us/contact-us/, including police and security email contact addresses.
