UW-Madison Google Workspace - Recover files from a Shared Drive's trash folder

The process of accessing and recovering files from a shared drive's trash is slightly different than with a Google My Drive's trash. This article shows how to access and recover deleted files from a Google Shared Drive.

How to access a Google Shared Drive's trash folder

  1. Log into Google Drive.
  2. Select shared drives on the left sidebar.
  3. Select a shared drive to view its trash folder.
  4. Once the shared drive is open, return to the left sidebar and select Trash.
  5. View each shared drive's trash folder by selecting the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
      • The drop-down menu allows you to see a list of and choose from other drives.
      • The trash folder will list deleted files that may be recoverable.  
  6. Select a file and right-click or use the buttons in the upper-left to recover/delete the file.
