Graduate Student Tracking System (GSTS) - Report Information

This document provides an overview of the Graduate Student Tracking System (GSTS) and the academic advisement reports it generates.

This Graduate Student Tracking System (GSTS) report provides and tracks the academic requirements a student needs to fulfill in order to complete a master's or doctoral degree program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The report is meant to inform graduate students, faculty advisors and program coordinators what requirements have been met, what is in progress, and what is needed regarding program and Graduate School academic degree requirements.

NOTE: This report is based on the requirements in the Guide. Please be aware that prior coursework and individual course exceptions/waivers may not be reflected in this report.

GSTS only accounts for single major students and currently does not track double majors, dual degrees, or joint degrees. In addition, due to significant changes in policy to graduate degree requirements in Fall 2014, students who began their program earlier will not have a GSTS report.

The Graduate School sets minimum standards that must be met by all graduate students ( The requirements of most programs exceed the Graduate School minimum criteria and can be found below.

NOTE: In Spring 2020, a special grade option for students was created in response to COVID-19 events. At the end of the term students could choose to convert an A-F letter grade on any course into one of two new grades:

SD (Satisfactory-Disruption) grades count for all degree requirements, as well as certificate and doctoral minor course credit, and will satisfy future course prerequisites. UD (Unsatisfactory-

Disruption) grades do not count for any credit. Neither grade will be included in GPA calculations.
