Guide: Reminders and Tips for Lumen Programs Proposals

This document provides reminders on what to look for when reviewing a Lumen Programs proposal. Many of these tips have been derived from identifying consistent issues on a number of proposals in the past. In other words, the tables below highlight some of the common questions and edits seen on graduate Lumen Programs proposals.

Edits to governed content on graduate programs' Guide pages must be made and approved via Lumen Programs. To assist those responsible with approving proposals, check for the following:

Admissions

Are English language proficiency test scores those accepted by the Graduate School (TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test)? Yes - no change needed

Is there repetition of information already stated in the admissions table? In other words, does the program repeat deadlines or information in the narrative underneath the table? Yes - keep information in the table, delete information underneath the table

Does the link to the online Graduate School application redirect to the updated application system (https://grad.wisc.edu/apply/)? Yes - no change needed

Does the program provide general admissions-related instructions underneath the table? Yes - no change, refer to Editing Governed Tabs KB

For doctoral minors or graduate/professional certificates, are there instructions for students to add the credential? Yes - no change needed

If applicable, do curricular pathways have required footnote? Yes - no change needed
No - add footnote: "These pathways are internal to the program and represent different curricular paths a student can follow to earn this degree. Pathway names do not appear in the Graduate School admissions application, and they will not appear on the transcript." 
For service-based pricing programs, are curricular and program requirements specific? Yes - no change needed

Does the course list account for the minimum credit requirements using the "sum hours" function? Yes - no change needed

Do program requirements separate admitted applicants into different populations (e.g., applicants with a UW-Madison degree vs. applicants without a UW-Madison degree)? Yes - confer with the Graduate School academic planner; degrees cannot have different requirements for different populations
