GSTS - Academic Advisement Report (Faculty Advisors)
This document provides an overview of how Faculty Advisors can access and run Academic Advisement Reports for their graduate student advisees using the Graduate Student Tracking System (GSTS). It also provides an overview of the Academic Advisement Report structure and an introduction to reading the report. Note that the access path and report view are different for both graduate coordinators and students.
Go to: https://madison.sis.wisc.edu/ and use your NetID and passwordto log into the Student Information System (SIS).
Click on the compass in the upper right hand corner to open the NavBar.
Select the Navigator icon, then select Self Service.
Select Advisor Center, then Advisee Student Center.
In the Advisee Student Center use the drop down menu to select the advisee whose report you want to view. Then click Change.
Under the Academics section use the drop down menu to select Academic Requirements. Then click the double arrow to generate the report.
The following screen will be displayed. This is general information that tells the user what GSTS is. It also includes a disclaimer that warns users that student course exceptions and prior coursework may not be displayed in the report at this time.
Student’s actual coursework and academic progress are reflected in this report. Requirements that are “not satisfied” remain expanded, and requirements that are “satisfied” will be collapsed.
However, you can automatically collapse and expand all sections in the report using the buttons at the top of the page.
Each requirement will show the units or number of courses required, taken, and needed. Units or courses in progress will count as if they have been successfully completed, but will display with a yellow diamond next to them notifying users that this status is pending successful completion.
Scrolling down you will also see Program Minimum Requirements, including those for resident credit and graduate coursework (50%). These minimums satisfy the Graduate School minimum requirements, and are pulled individually for each program from the Requirements tab on your Guide page.
Lastly you will see Informational Data, which includes courses not counted for program requirements, but which might be used towards completing the required Graduate School credits.
