Moving Machines to The Proper Organizational Unit in Campus Active Directory

Detailed instructions on how to move a newly imaged machine to its proper OU in Campus AD.

I.  Image Machine

  1. After completing the imaging process on a computer in the Campus AD Domain, confirm which department owns the machine. 

II. Change Domain Location 

1. Find the Active Directory Users Computers Application. You can search for it through windows search, or located it in the Windows Administrative Tools Folder. 

2. Hold down shift and right click on the application and select Run As Different User. 

3. In the Log In prompt, please enter your OU account username and password. 

4. At the toolbar on the top of the window, select Action and then in the drop-down menu, select Change Domain. 

5. Enter into the domain field ad.wisc.edu and select OK. 

6. At the toolbar, select Action and in the drop down menu select Find. 

7. In the Find drop-down, select computers. 

8. Enter the name of the computer you wish to move to it's proper OU, and select find now. 

9.Right Click the name of the computer and select Move...

10. The location of the computer should be set to ntds://ad.wisc.edu/orgUnits/DDS/[Department of user] /Computers 

 i. For an example... ntds://ad.wisc.edu/orgUnits/DDS/AIP/Computers for a computer belonging to Administration Innovation, and Planning.
