DoIT Departmental Support - Managed Security Layer (MSL) - Automatic Restarts
DoIT Departmental Support has implemented automatic restarts for all managed computers to ensure that they are occasionally restarted to finish installing software updates.
To better align with cybersecurity best practices, on January 13th 2025 the threshold for automatic restarts will be reduced from 60 days to 30 days. The 7 day grace period will remain the same.

Many software updates, including critical security updates, require the computer to restart to complete the installation. Systems will be less secure and may become unstable over time if they are not occasionally restarted.
Users will see a prompt after their computer has gone 60 days without a restart. They will be able to defer the restart for up to 7 days, but will not be able cancel it.
