DoIT Departmental Tech Support - Logging into Windows 10 for the first time
If you are off campus, or must login for the first time while connected wirelessly, stop. You must contact the DoIT Help Desk at 608-265-6900 for assistance in this case.

Windows 10 - Logging in for the first time

1. If starting from the Windows 10 Lock Screen (shown here on the right), press a keyboard key or left-click with the mouse to reveal the login screen. Otherwise, you should be seeing the login screen shown in Step 2. |

2. Enter your assigned user name in the User name textbox. Your supervisor will provide you with your assigned user name. |

3. In the Password field enter your temporary password and click the arrow to the right of the textbox. Your supervisor will provide you with your temporary password. Note: If you have already established a valid password and are logging into a different or replacement computer, you will not be prompted to change your password. You may skip down to Step 7. |

4. You will be prompted to change your password. Click OK. |

5. Enter your temporary password in the Old Password textbox and type your new password in the New Password and Confirm New Password textboxes. Click the arrow on the right side of the second new password textbox to continue. Note: Passwords must

6. You will receive confirmation that your password has been changed. Click OK. |

7. Windows will now complete the login process for you. During the login process, a script runs that maps your home and shared network drives. You may notice a Command window open which has a black background. It is important that you do not close this window as this may cancel the execution of the script. Once the login script completes, a welcome message with a white background appears. You may click its OK button, or simply wait (about 5 seconds) for it and the Command window to close automatically. |
