Electronic Reports (Cypress) - Uninstalling an MS Update (revised 05/22/14)
This webdoc has instructions on removing Windows update MS Update KB2871997.
UPDATE for 05/22/14:
A new Cypress client was released that is not affected by the MS Update KB2871997.
The new client can be installed by:
- going to the website: http://cypress.doit.wisc.edu
- scroll down to the "Installation Instructions"
- click on the link in the second line
- click "Run" in the bottom pop up box
So the installation is the same as it always has been, it is just a new client.
Customers attempting to access Cypress have reported seeing the following error after clicking the binoculars on the main window of the ASG-Cypress client. The Cypress technicians have linked this error to the Microsoft update, KB2871997. The temporary resolution to this problem is to remove the update.

Click on the START button and then CONTROL PANEL.

On the Control Panel screen, click "System and Security".

On the System and Security screen, click "View installed updates".

The list of installed updates should be displayed.

You can remove an update by following these steps:
- search for an individual update (in this case KB2871997)
- select an update by clicking it
- click the UNINSTALL button to remove it
You may need to reboot your computer for the uninstallation to take effect.

Starting at the Windows 8 desktop screen, type "control panel".

The search for "control panel" should return the Control Panel icon. Click this icon.

The Control Panel should be displayed. Click on the "System and Security" selection.

Click on the "View update history" selection.

Click on the "Installed Updates" link to get a listing of the installed updates.

You can remove an update by clicking on the selection and then clicking the UNINSTALL button.

You may need to reboot your computer for the uninstallation to take affect.
