LabArchives: Log-in and Access problems

Common problems that prevent accessing the ELN or a specific notebook

Here are some common issues people run into when sharing their notebooks and how to solve them.

I cannot login and see this error: No eduPersonEntitlement attribute

  1. Ensure that you (or your lab/group's PI) has signed up for an account with the ELN service (Request Here) and the account has been activated. Individuals will not be able to access the UW-Madison LabArchives service until this step has been completed. For more information about who is eligible for an account see (Transitioning to ELN).

  2. If your lab/group has already completed step 1, contact the ELN service team using the ELN access request form: Contact Form. Include a description of the problem, including any error messages you see. An ELN Service team member will respond to your

I cannot access a notebook that was shared with me

First, make sure that the user knows how to go between notebooks – if a user has access to multiple notebooks, they can switch between them using the left side of LabArchives interface (see image below)

This user has access to 8 different notebooks. To view them all in a list, click the arrow >

If the shared notebook is not in your Notebooks list, it was likely shared with an email that is not registered to your account. To see what email is connected to your account, go into your LabArchives account and click on the menu with your name displayed and choose User Properties.

Look at what email is listed for your account.

Have the person who invited you to their notebook re-invite you with this email address. Now you should have access to their notebook.
