Microsoft 365 - Email Authenticity (DMARC) Enforcement

This document describes campus email authentication (DMARC) enforcement.

Email authentication and DMARC are intended to prevent malicious attacks using trusted domains. Our Proofpoint protection server offers support for DMARC enforcement. Messages that do not pass email authenticity checks may be routed to the recipient's Junk email folder

Our local policy is that all mail sent from UW-Madison Microsoft 365 email addresses must pass email authentication (DMARC) checks in order to be delivered to the recipient's Inbox.

Mail sent from non UW-Madison email addresses that do not pass email authentication (DMARC) checks will be routed based on the policy published in DNS by the domain owner.
