UW-Madison Google Workspace - Uploading Files to Google Drive
Learn how to import files into your UW-Madison Google Workspace account.

Before uploading files or folders to Google Drive, you should first verify your upload settings.
Verify upload settings
Log in to UW-Madison Google Workspace with your NetID and password using the following URL:
If you have multiple UW-Madison Google Workspace accounts, select your desired account from the list provided.
Note: If you only have one UW-Madison Google Workspace account, you will be logged into your account automatically.
Don't see the account you are looking for? You may need to link your Office 365 service account to your NetID.
- From the Gear Menu in the upper right, select Settings
Locate the Convert Uploads setting. Check or uncheck the box that corresponds to Convert uploaded files to Google Docs editor format. Click Done when you have made your selection.

Checked: Spreadsheets, documents, and images in supported formats uploaded to Google Drive will be converted to a format that is editable in Google Docs. Click here for more information.
This setting is most appropriate if you plan to use Google Docs to create and edit files in addition to sharing them.

Unchecked: Files uploaded to Google Drive will not be automatically converted to a format that is editable in Google Drive. You may always convert files manually at a later time.
This setting is most appropriate if you plan to use Google Docs primarily to share documents with colleagues and not edit them with Google Docs.

Once you have verified that your upload settings meet your needs, you are ready to start uploading files!
Uploading files or folders
Log in to UW-Madison Google Workspace with your NetID and password using the following URL:
If you have multiple UW-Madison Google Workspace accounts, select your desired account from the list provided.
Note: If you only have one UW-Madison Google Workspace account, you will be logged into your account automatically.
Click the New button in the upper left corner
Select File Upload or Folder Upload
The Folder option is not available in Firefox or Safari. If you select Enable folder upload, you will be prompted to download Google Chrome.
Some Microsoft Edge users may see a message that says "No upload methods available. Please check your system configuration". If you see this message, you will need to install the Google Chrome Frame add-on before uploading files.
You will then be prompted to select files or folders.
Once your files or folders have uploaded, you will see a confirmation window notifying you that your upload is complete in the lower right corner:
