WiscIT - Creating a Desktop Shortcut

This document provides instructions for creating a desktop shortcut for the WiscIT web client, which can then be placed on the desktop, taskbar, or Start menu on a Windows computer, or in the Dock on a Mac. You may also create a browser bookmark to the web client using the standard method for your browser.

Mac OS X

  1. In a web browser, navigate to https://wiscit.wisc.edu/CherwellClient/Access and log in.

  2. In your browser's address bar, you should see an icon to the left of the URL. The exact icon will vary depending on what browser you are using, though it is often a padlock or a globe. Click on this icon and begin dragging it toward your Dock; a phantom image of the icon should stay on your cursor.

  3. Drag the icon down to your Dock and drop it somewhere to the right of the line that divides your applications from your Downloads and minimized windows. Once dropped, an @ sign on a spring should appear, as shown below. This icon can then be used to navigate directly to the Cherwell web client in your default browser.

  1. Right-click on an empty space on the Desktop and select New > Shortcut:

  2. Enter the following into the Location field and click Next:

  3. Enter "WiscIT" as the name for this shortcut and click "Finish":

  4. A page icon labeled "WiscIT" should appear somewhere on your desktop; this shortcut can now be used to navigate directly to the Cherwell web client in your default browser.
