CrashPlan - How to Receive a Discount for an Existing non-UW Account
This document provides information on receiving a pro-rated discount for users who signed up for a CrashPlan subscription prior to the UW discount being established.
If you are an existing CrashPlan customer who signed up before UW Madison affiliates became elgible to purchase subscriptions at a discount, you have the option to receive credit for the time remaining on your original subscription. CrashPlan then allows you to cancel your current subscription and purchase a new one with the 25% discount.
Be aware that making the subscription purchase does not equate to creating a new account. Your old subscription would end when you cancel it and the new one, with the discount, starts when you buy it. You should get the unused portion of your old subscription as an pro-rated credit.
So, if you already have an account, you need to cancel your subscription first. Then, buy a new one with your @wisc.edu email to get the discount. While remaining logged into your account in the CrashPlan client, you can then enter the new key you are given after purchasing a subscription through UW-Madison. Once that is done, you should see that your subscription is extended to the period you purchased with the discount.
In the CrashPlan client, click on Settings > Account.
Select Manage Account.
Cancel the subscription you no longer want.
When you see the warning message, confirm that you want to cancel. As long as you perform the next two steps right away, your data will be safe.

Copy and paste the new license key to the client by doing the following:
Copy the new license key (to the clipboard).
Open the CrashPlan desktop.
Choose Settings > Account.
Paste the new license key in the Key field.
