This document explains what to do with your UW Digital ID if you’ve gotten a new computer or otherwise need a copy of your UW Digital ID.
If you need to retrieve your UW Digital ID digital certificate (for example, you've gotten a new computer and would like to install your certificate on the new machine), there are a few options for you to take, depending on your specific situation.
You can install the certificate directly onto your new machine with no other additional configuration. Instructions on how to install your certificate are available here: UW Digital ID (Personal Certificate) - Installing My Certificate (Windows and Mac)
You can export the certificate from the old computer and install it on the new computer. Instructions to export a certificate are available here: UW Digital ID (Personal Certificate) - Exporting My Certificate (Windows and Mac)
Check to see if your certificate is available for download on the UW Digital ID certificate application located at https://certs.uwdigitalid.wisconsin.edu/. Click &no_frill=1"My Certificates" to see if you have an entry to download your certificate.
If you do not have the ability to download your certificate through the UW Digital ID application, you will need to contact UW Digital ID Administration at email@example.com to reset your certificate request. The administrators will reset your certificate request, which involves revoking (i.e. expiring) your old certificate and issuing you a brand new certificate. You can follow the instructions above to install the certificate on your new computer.
If you've encrypted documents or emails that you need to decrypt and you've lost your only copy of your certificate, please contact UW Digital ID Administration to retrieve your old certificate. You will receive further instructions to obtain your old certificate.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the UW Digital ID team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
