DoIT User Services Summer Internship Program

Endpoint Management and Compliance Intern
The DoIT Departmental Support Security and Application Support team serves the administrative, academic, and research technology support needs of students, departments and faculty/staff on the UW Madison campus. Under the general guidance of the Assistant Director of User Services - Departmental Support, this position participates on the Security and Application Support (SAS) team, within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT). Security and Application Support technicians perform technology troubleshooting for a wide variety of technology-driven devices, services, and solutions. In a typical year, more than 70 unique departments receive support from DoIT Departmental Support.
As a Security and Application Support technician, you will work with a variety of campus customers to assist in the planning, deployment and daily support of endpoints in use around campus. This will involve resolving customer issues, documenting changes to devices within a change management system and deploying new and replacement systems for a diverse customer and product base. The responsibilities also include modifying Windows Group Policies, host-based firewall rules, antivirus settings and user accounts. This position requires an individual who has acquired a broad knowledge of general IT concepts, principles, practices, and techniques and whose expertise must span multiple technologies across network, hardware, and software platforms. This position will be 40 hours per week.

Help Desk Marketing Internship
The Marketing Intern will help find new ways to reach students, faculty, and staff to ensure they know about the free resources offered by the DoIT Help Desk. Additionally, the intern will help market student Help Desk positions to reach a wider and more diverse audience. The internship will consist of three phases:
- Phase 1 - Learn what services the Help Desk provides and our current marketing efforts.
- Phase 2 - Provide three proposals (low, medium, and high resource) on how to increase our marketing efforts both for our services and as an employer.
- Phase 3 - Implement the selected plan and give specific outlines of how to continue our marketing efforts on an ongoing basis.
Business Process Analyst (Computer Repair)
At DoIT, we believe in providing you with experiences and responsibilities that will prepare you for life after school. In this position, you will work closely with the Repair team lead to review the repair process from intake to output, looking for ways to improve operations. This process will require you to align operations with larger strategic objectives, being mindful of financial implications. Your tasks will include learning basic hardware and software repair skills, analyzing and improving operational processes, and presenting sound business cases to DoIT leadership.

Training and Documentation Design Internship
As a Training and Documentation Intern, you will assist with our development of the Cherwell Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) tool in the areas of knowledge base documentation, ongoing user training curriculum, and incident procedural information for up to 900 categorizations that will be deployed within Cherwell. For the duration of the summer, you will be part of a cohort of Interns who are working on various projects throughout User Services and will have the opportunity to work alongside students and full-time staff in a fun team environment.
