NetID Account Compromised - Responded to a Phishing Scam
The following steps will return your account to working order if you accidentally responded to a phishing scam and were deactivated per DoIT Security.
What is phishing?
Phishing is the process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. These are most often in the form of an email asking for personal information in order to "reactivate a suspended account" or "check on suspicious activity". Phishing emails often mimic the look and feel of an official email sent from an institution you trust, such as a bank, university, or credit card company.
Remember: No university, bank, or company will ever ask you to verify personal information via email.
If you receive an email asking you to respond back with personal information (e.g. social security number, campus ID number, credit card number, date of birth, etc.), you should immediately suspect it to be malicious. If you are not sure if the email is legitimate, call the company, bank, or university to verify that the email was, in fact, sent from them.

Once you have watched the video, please contact the DoIT Help Desk at (608) 264-HELP. One of our senior agents will review your account to check for malicious activity, re-activate your NetID Services, and reset your password.
