TAM - How to Apply for a Job On-line (External Applicant)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

External applicants that currently do not work for the UW System (any campus or institution) can search for vacancies which may be of interest. Before applying for a posted position, one must register online.

PROCEDURE STEPS:

Create an Account

  1. Navigate to the Campus' Employment Opportunities Website, or you can, navigate directly to the Careers page at https://www.careers.wisconsin.edu. On the Careers page, click on the "New User" link. You will then be taken to the Register page.  If you have already created a user account, Click "Sign In" from the Careers page to log in with your username and password.

  2. On the Register page, enter a username (not case sensitive), password (case sensitive), first name, last name and email address. Passwords require a minimum of 8 characters with at least 1 lowercase character, 1 uppercase character and 1 special character.
    Note
    : E-mail address is required; many state job service agencies and most community libraries have public-access computers you can use to apply online.  The staff there can assist you with setting up a free e-mail account.

  3. Fill in additional personal contact information (optional):  Phone number and address.

  4. Once completed, click the Register button. You will then be returned to the Careers Home Page.

Finding a Job

  1. You can
    a.  view all current job postings
    b.  narrow the search by Keywords
    c.  narrow down the search more by clicking More Options
    d.  view certain positions by using the Filter by section

  2. After the results populate, click the Job Posting link for which you are interested in applying.

  3. Review the Job Posting.

  4. To apply for the job posting, click Apply.

Applying for a Job

NOTE: at any point in time click Exit to be taken out of the application and returned to your home page, click Save as Draft to save the current application, or click Previous to go back to the previous page in your application. 

  1. Step 1 - Read through the notices, agreements and terms. After doing so, click the I have read and agree to the above terms and agreements checkbox and then click Next.

  2. Step 2 - Answer any Pre-qualification questions and select Next.
    NOTE:
    If you meet the pre-qualifications for this position a message will appear telling you that you are eligible to apply for this job. If you do not meet pre-qualifications, a message will appear informing you that you do not meet qualifications for this position and you will be taken out of the job application process.

  3. Step 3 Resume/Curriculum Vitae and Cover Letter - Enter your resume/CV by either selecting
    a.  Type resume text button to type in or copy and paste your resume (Note: if using copy and paste, some of the formatting may not remain in the document after it is saved.)
    b.  Attach Resume button to upload a copy of your resume

  4. Click the Attach Cover Letter button to upload a cover letter to the job application.

  5. After adding the resume and/or cover letter, click Next.

  6. Step 4 - click the Add Attachment button to add additional documentation such as Transcripts, References, or Other items. After adding the attachment(s), click Next.
    Note: upload all required application materials, such as, transcripts, teaching philosophy, etc. *Be sure to upload all required materials to ensure your application is considered complete.

  7. Step 5 - update the Preferences (optional). Click Next.

  8. Step 6 - answer any questions in the Online Questionnaire page and click Next.
    NOTE: To answer open ended questions, you can copy and paste from Word into the text box. Use spell check by clicking the book and arrow icon to the right of the box.
    • To add optional education information in the Online Questionnaire, click on the Add Degrees link.
      • Enter the Date Acquired.
      • Enter the Degree, you must enter from a list of values, to see the list of values select the magnifying glass.
      • Enter other degree information as you wish.
      • Click Save to return to the application or Save and Add Another to add another degree.

  10. Step 7 - enter references by clicking the Add Reference button.

  11. Enter the required reference information, Reference Type, Reference Name and Title. Additional information can be added.

  12. After entering the reference information, click the Save button. If there is another reference to add, click Save and Add Another.

  13. After adding all references, click Next.

  14. Step 8 - read and answer the Request for Confidentiality, and click Next.

  15. Step 9 - provide the necessary information on how you learned about the position.  After completing the Source Information fields, click Next.

  16. Step 10 - you will be brought to the Voluntary Self-Identification page. This step has three separate pages, complete each section and select Next to move to the next page.
    • Disability
    • Veteran
    • Diversity - clicking Next after completing this page will take you to the next step

  17. Step 11 - review the information entered into the application.
    • To edit any portion of the application, click the Pencil icon for the section you wish to change. 
    • Or you can go back and edit information by clicking the Previous button to navigate back to that step.
    • If you are not ready to submit, you can click Save as Draft to save the current application. Do not Submit Application until the application is complete, including all required documents listed in the job posting. When you are ready to submit the application, see below for Submitting a Saved Application.

  18. Click the Submit Application button to complete the application.

  19. You will see a message asking if all required materials are attached.  Click Yes to submit, click No and then click the Pencil icon for the section you wish to change.
    Note
    : Once the application is submitted, changes can no longer be made.

  20. After submitting the application, you will receive an Application Confirmation. You can either click the hyperlink to View Submitted Application or Return to Job Search.

Submitting a Saved Application

  1. From the home page, click My Activities.

  2. Click the Job Title for the application that has not been submitted.

  3. Complete and review the application.
    NOTE: Even if you have already completed the Voluntary Self-Identification pages, you will need to re-enter the information.

  4. Click the Submit Application button to complete the application.

  5. You will see a message asking if all required materials are attached.  Click Yes to submit, click No and then click the Pencil icon for the section you wish to change.
