How to Copy Applications

What does the Copy Application activity do?

Using the Copy Application activity allows study teams to make an electronic copy of an IRB application in ARROW. This copy can be used as a template when creating an IRB application for another study.

How does the Copy Application activity work?

To create a copy of an existing IRB application to use as a template for another IRB application, please do the following:

  • Step 1: Locate the study for which you want to make a copy of the application.
  • Step 2: In the study workspace, locate the Copy Application activity link on the left hand side. NOTE: If you do not see the Copy Application activity listed, this means the study is at a point in the IRB review process where the system will not allow copies of the application to be made.
  • Step 3: Click the Copy Application activity link. A form will pop up asking you to provide a name for the copied application. The form also will ask you whether you wish to save the copy as a template.  Select YES to save the copy as a template and then click ok. NOTE: It may take several minutes for the template to be made.
  • Step 4: Click on My Home to return to your personal workspace. In your personal workspace, locate and click on the Form Templates tab in the center of the page.
  • Step 5: In the Form Templates tab, find the name you used for the copied application and click on the name to go to the template workspace.
  • Step 6: In the template workspace, you will again see the Copy Application activity on the left hand side. Click on this activity and a form will again pop up asking to you to provide a title. The form also will ask you whether you wish to save the copy as a template. Select NO since you do not need to make another template and then click ok. NOTE: It may take several minutes for the copy to be made.
  • Step 7: Click on My Home to return to your personal workspace. The copied application should now appear in your inbox. The copied application will be in the Pre-Submission state.
  • Step 8: Click on the copied application’s title to access the study workspace. From the study workspace, you can edit the application like any other IRB application in ARROW.

Do I always need to follow steps 1-3 to create a copy of an application?

No. After you have used the Copy Application activity to create a template, you can continue to access that template through the Form Templates tab in your personal workspace. Templates can be used as many times as you like to create copies of applications.
