Perceptive Content: When printing to the ImageNow Printer a save file prompt appears
Issue
When "printing" to the ImageNow Printer, you are expecting a linking dialog for the resulting converted TIFF document image. Instead, you are prompted to save a document. This may be caused by an a number of problems with the ImageNow Printer configured on your workstation. In 2012, Hyland published a support document regarding an improperly configured inowprint.ini file. Troubleshooting steps for this are detailed below as Method 2, which leads you to inspect and repair a possible invalid entry in the Windows Registry. You may wish to examine this first, but you are more likely to solve the issue with a more general solution described in the first method.
Method 1
Repair the ImageNow Printer configuration by verifying the entire Perceptive Content installation.
Perform a "repair" of the Perceptive Content Desktop Client from the "Programs and Features" Control Panel. This should put the ImageNow Printer back to a freshly installed state. You may need a person with administrative rights on your workstation to do this.

Method 2
Follow these steps to update the scripting path in the Windows registry to point to the location of the inowprint.ini file.
NOTE: you will need Administrator privileges to edit the Windows Registry.
- Verify the location of the inowprint.ini file. Note: The default location is
%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Imagenow\etc(which can be pasted into the Windows search bar). - If using a Windows version other than Windows 10:
- On the client computer click Start, and then click Run.
- On the Run dialog box, in the Open box, type
regeditand then click OK. - If using Windows 10:
- On the client computer enter
regeditin the Windows Search bar. - From the resulting search, right click on
regedit.exeand choose "Run As Administrator" to get elevated privileges. - From the File menu select Export and create a backup of the registry before making any changes. This back can be used to restore the registry should anything go awry. A suggested name is the current date plus "backup", e.g., "20130805_backup.reg". This Microsoft document provides additional information on backup/restore of the Registry: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756. Alternatively, you can use Windows Restore to create a RestorePoint which can be used to reverse changes to the Registry. See the Windows documents for your version of Windows to learn how to do this.
- Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE by clicking on the +, then expand System.
- Under System, expand CurrentControlSet, and then expand Control.
- Under Control, expand Print, and then expand Printers.
- Under Printers, expand the ImageNow Printer.
- Under ImageNow Printer, select PrinterDriverData.
- In the right pane, confirm that the "
Scripting File" key value is the path to the inowprint.ini file from the first step. If not, correct it and skip the next step. - In the right pane, if a "
Scripting File" key is missing, create a new key. Follow these steps to create a new Windows Registry key:- From the Edit menu, select New, and then select String Value.
- In the New Value box, type
Scripting File. - Double-click the
Scripting Filekey. - In the Edit String window, in the Value data box, type the path to the inowprint.ini file:
%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Imagenow\etc - Click OK.
- From the File menu select Exit.
- Restart the client computer to reload the registry settings.
- Confirm that the "Save File" prompt no longer appears when using the ImageNow Printer.
