DoIT Internal Operations - Department Service and Vendor Permits

Departments and business units within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) may apply for Service and Vendor permits on an annual basis. This document explains how the Internal Operations Team may assist with the application process.

General Information

Applying for a Service and Vendor Permit is separate and different from the annual process individual staff members go through when applying for campus parking.

  • The parking year begins September 1 and ends August 31.
  • A department or business unit may apply for Service and Vendor permits at any time during the year.

To learn more, visit UW Department Limited and Service Permit Application on the UW-Madison Transportation Services website.

Application Steps for Departments

Before an Application is Submitted

The Internal Operations Team will work with the department or business unit director to:

  1. Determine what kind and how many permits are needed for the calendar year.
  2. Receive confirmation and approval for the department fund to be charged for the expense.
  3. Gather a business purpose that clearly explains and defines the reason for the purchase.

See example business purpose below.

This Service permit was purchased and will be used by the Division of Information Technology Departmental Support Staff to provide Information Technology Services on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. The department serves and supports more than 40 departments across campus. This Service permit will give department staff the ability to park in a variety of locations and provide customer support when, where, and as needed.

To Submit An Application

Departmental Assistants within the Internal Operations Team will use their university issued Purchase Card to complete the application form and submit the order online.

For detailed information and parking application steps, visit Parking Application Steps for Departments and Vendors on the UW-Madison Transportation Services website.

Use of Permit

Service and Vendor permits are for UW departments to conduct official university business.

  • Acceptable use includes attending meetings or training, conducting business on different areas of campus, or delivering items across campus.
  • The hangtag may be transferred to multiple users and displayed in any department-owned or personal vehicle.

Employees with a personal parking permit (base lot or Flex) must display their personal permit along with a Service permit.

  • Flex permit holders must be in paid status while using a Service permit.

Service and Vendor permits may not be purchased in lieu of an annual base lot permit for their personal vehicle. And they are not for employees to park closer to their office than their personal permit assignment.

For detailed information, visit Service/Vendor permit on the UW-Madison Transportation Services website.
