Course page - Assign location (room) and time

A guide on how to assign a course meeting location (room), and the day(s) and time(s) when the class will meet.

To open a Course page, you must have Curriculum Management permissions, which can be set by your IPT administrator.

In this guide

Assign room and meeting times for a lecture

On a Course page, the Class Length and Location & Time fields are located at the bottom of the second section.

Class Length

You cannot assign meeting day(s) and time(s) until you enter the Class Length, which is the number of minutes that the lecture will meet for. This number should be the duration of a single class meeting, not the total number of minutes the class will meet during a week.

Location

In the Location & Time field, select the requested room assignment from the first dropdown.

If the course is online only, there is an option in the Social Work instance of IPT to select “ONLINE” as the room location.

If the room you need to assign is not listed in the dropdown, refer to Admin Tools - Add or edit rooms in system list or contact your IPT administrator.

Day and Time

From the second dropdown, select the day(s) on which the class will meet.

Once you select the class day(s), a new field will appear where you can enter the class start time. IPT will automatically calculate the end time based on the Class Length you entered.

You may select the “No Dates or Times” checkbox if you do not want the course to appear in the Timetable Planning (calendar grid) view. This option is primarily used for asynchronous online courses and independent studies.

Assign room and meeting times for discussion or lab sections

If the course you’re planning has discussion and/or lab sections, find the dropdowns for “Select a number of discussion sections” and “Select a number of lab sections” in the middle of the Course page.

Once you enter the number of discussion/lab sections, the bottom of the Course page will populate with additional form fields so you can enter details about each section. These fields will appear at the bottom of the Course page, just above the Comments field.

Section Length

Above the table listing SECTION, TA, LOCATION, and HOURS, there is a Section Length field. You cannot assign meeting day(s) and time(s) until you enter the Section Length, which is the number of minutes that the discussion/lab section will meet for. This number should be the duration of a single class meeting, not the total number of minutes the class will meet during a week.
