Interactive Reporting - Mac Compatibility

The Interactive Reporting service is not compatible with Apple/Mac machines! Mac users should obtain a Windows environment in order to run the Interactive Reporting workspace and applicable software.

Note: Interactive Reporting, including both the IR Workspace (web) and the Studio Desktop client, will be decommissioned on March 1st, 2019. Neither the web nor the desktop software will be available or supported after this date.

UW-Madison affiliates can find more information on alternative tools on the Office of Data Management and Analytics Services website.

Other UW System affiliates can find additional information, as well as a list of support contacts, on the UWBI Support website.

Options for Running Windows on a Mac

  • Emulation software may be purchased at the DoIT Tech Store in order to create a Windows environment on your Mac.  The Tech Store carries Parallels (Item Number: C64618) and VMware Fusion (Item Number: C63386).  Either may be used.
  • Another option is the WAF (Windows Access Facilty).  The WAF is a Windows Terminal Server that provides supplemental access for Mac and Linux users to applications that are only available on the Windows platform.  There you will have access to the Interactive Reporting plug-in and the Query Library.

Directions for installation and access on found in Help Desk document: WAF - Installing and Accessing.

  • Another option is to run a virtual XP machine from your desktop.   Please consult with your local IT support staff regarding running a Windows virtual machine.
If you have any questions please call the DoIT Help Desk at (608) 264-4357 and select option 2.
