Customized Outage Messages

Service Leads may request customized outage messages for recurring planned maintenance that will communicate the unique impact for customers and end users of that service.

In general, outages posted by Change Management for planned maintenance take a generic form such as "The [Technical Service] will be unavailable while maintenance is performed".

However, some service leads prefer to customize the outage message so as to be more accurate in conveying the impact of the planned maintenance on their service.

For instance, the Human Resource System (HRS) uses the following template for their planned outages:

The HRS - Human Resource System service will be unavailable while maintenance is performed.

Payroll, time, absence, benefits, approvals and HRS Administrator tasks will be unavailable during this outage.

If you are a service lead and would like to provide a customized outage message to be used for planned maintenance for your service, please email changemanagement@doit.wisc.edu with the name of your Technical Service and the text you would like used for future planned outages.

Note: The outage page does not support rich text at this time, so please provide the outage message in plain text.

For unplanned outages for your service, please communicate to the SNCC your desired outage text via the DoIT Operations Support channel and they will update the outage accordingly.
