CMDB- DNS Federation from Infoblox
This KB provides technical details on how the CMDB and Infoblox are integrated to maintain accurate relationships in the CMDB for DNS entries that are made directly in Infoblox.
DNS changes made in Infoblox are automatically synchronized via a scheduled task with the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) every morning for the previous day’s activity in Infoblox.
The following DNS Infoblox changes are synchronized:
- DNS Created/Modified/Deleted
- Host Records Created/Modified/Deleted
- CNAME Created/Modified/Deleted
IP Addresses that are currently set to ‘Unused’ will be updated to ‘Operational’ once they are related to a new DNS entry.
CNAME Records are synchronized or created in the CMDB only if the canonical name exists in the CMDB already.
DNS updates for delegated domains are NOT automatically synchronized in the CMDB and still require manual CMDB updates by Hostmaster.
Note: IP addresses in the CMDB are manually created and updated by Hostmaster. See KB #[Link for document 22833 is unavailable at this time]
