L&S Fall 2021 Common Questions about Instruction
Please see links below to find more information about commonly asked instructor questions for the Fall 2021 semester
Masking Policies.
- Masks must be worn by all students, employees, and visitors when inside campus buildings.
- UW Policy for Face Coverings and FAQs
- Campus Masking Policy- On Campus and in the Classroom has guidance for addressing cases of students not wearing a mask in the classroom.
- Students may receive an exemption from the mask requirement via the McBurney Disability Center. Instructors will receive notification of such an accommodation directly from the McBurney Center.
Student Absences
- If a student tests positive for COVID-19 they should notify their instructors that they will be unable to attend in-person classes while in isolation. Instructors should work with them to provide alternative ways to complete work. Students who attend class, work or other in-person campus activity after testing positive for COVID-19, during the time they should be isolating, are subject to the campus nonacademic misconduct policy. (More information is at COVID-19 Response FAQ page.)
- Accommodations during covid-19 disruption (L&S): Supporting individual students who miss class due to illness, quarantine, or bereavement includes a number of strategies to accommodate student absences.

Course Tune-Up Initiative
The 2021 Fall semester brings a compelling new opportunity for transformative learning as we meld the best of our residential experience with the most promising technology-enabled practices that sustained us during more than a year of remote teaching. The L&S IDC is offering a Course Tune-Up Program to provide instructors with support to design an intentional “new normal” for their teaching.
