Printing (macOS) - Mapping a Departmental Printer

How to map a departmental printer in macOS.

These steps require a campus network connection. If you are off campus, or if you have trouble with the steps, please connect to VPN first. See WiscVPN - How to Install, Connect, Uninstall, and Disconnect WiscVPN Palo Alto GlobalProtect for information about installing and connecting to VPN.

These steps require you to know the name of the printer. Please contact the TechZone if you do not have this information.

  1. Open System Settings (System Preferences in macOS 12 and earlier).
  2. Scroll down and select Printers & Scanners.
  3. Add a printer:
    • For computers running macOS 12 and earlier, click the + (plus) button on near the bottom left of the window.
    • For computers running macOS 13 and later, click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax
  4. In the Add Printer window, navigate to the IP printer tab button(IP) tab in the center.
  5. Enter information as follows:
    1. Address: lsstz-winsrv-01.ad.wisc.edu
    2. Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
    3. Queue: The name of the printer, which should look something like VH-123-HP-203-MAC
    4. Name: An easy to remember name of your own choosing, such as Department Printer
