Printing (macOS) - Mapping a Departmental Printer with a Driver

These steps require you to know the name of the printer and to install a printer driver. Please contact the TechZone if you do not have this information.
- Download and install the printer driver as directed by the TechZone.
- Open System Settings (System Preferences in macOS 12 and earlier).
- Scroll down and select Printers & Scanners.
- Add a printer:
- For computers running macOS 12 and earlier, click the + (plus) button on near the bottom left of the window.
- For computers running macOS 13 and later, click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax
- In the Add Printer window, navigate to the (IP) tab in the center.
- Enter information as follows:
- Address: lsstz-winsrv-01.ad.wisc.edu
- Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
- Queue: The name of the printer, which should look something like VH-123-HP-203-MAC
- Name: An easy to remember name of your own choosing, such as Department Printer
- Use: Choose Select Software... and search for the driver by the model number. For the example above, you'd search for 203 and select the most relevant result.
- Click Add.
- If asked about printer options, select the appropriate options and click OK. Most printers support "duplex" or two-sided printing.
- If you mapped a copier that requires a copy code to print, follow the steps in one of the articles below to add your copy code to your settings.
