macOS (10.14+) - Updating the OS without Upgrading
How to run macOS updates without upgrading to the next version of macOS.
In macOS Mojave (10.14) or higher, it is possible to run operating system (OS) updates without upgrading to the next version of macOS. This is a convenient way to run security updates without doing a full system upgrade.
- From the Apple menu in the top left of the screen, open System Preferences...
- Select Software Update.
- It may take a moment for the computer to check for updates. An OS upgrade to a new version will show up at the top of the window. If other updates are available, they will show up below:
Click More info... - Select the updates you'd like to do, then click Install Now.
