Student Biographies and Law School FERPA Waivers
During the admissions process, all students must submit a biography, which is displayed on the Student Biographies website. As part of completing the biography, you will be asked about two Law-School-specific FERPA waivers.
The first FERPA waiver relates to the posting of your biography and photo (which are typically taken the first week of class). By default, students' biographies and photos will be displayed on the Student Biographies website. If, however, you have elected any FERPA holds through the University, this will prevent the Law School from being able to post your biography and photo. If you elect this Law-School-specific FERPA waiver, you give the Law School consent to post your biography and photo even if you've elected FERPA holds through the University that would otherwise prevent the Law School from being able to post them. If you do not elect this FERPA waiver, your campus FERPA holds will control -- if you do not want the Law School to display your photo or biography, you must select this option and elect FERPA holds at the University level.
The second FERPA waiver relates to the release of FERPA-protected information about you if you ask faculty or staff at the Law School to provide a reference or letter of recommendation on your behalf. If you elect this FERPA waiver, your reference/recommender may disclose certain FERPA-protected information about you for the sole purpose of providing the reference or letter of recommendation. If you do not elect this FERPA waiver, your reference/recommender may not disclose any FERPA-protected information about you, which may limit the usefulness of the reference/recommendation. You can also elect to waive the right to view the reference/recommendation.
