Learn@UW - Viewing Progress of your Students Enrolled in a Course
An instructor can view the overall progress of all students enrolled in a course through the "Class Progress" tool or a detailed progress of an individual student through the "User Progress" tool.
Some options for controlling the display of "User Progress" are also available.
Class Progress Tool
To access the "Class Progress" tool, go to Edit Course and select View User Progress.
The Class Progress tool provides a performance dashboard for the instructor to use to monitor student performance using any 4 chosen performance indicators from a selection of 9.
For example:
The available performance indicators are:
- Checklist Completion Summary
- Content Completion Summary
- Discussion Participation Summary
- Dropdown Performance Summary
- Grades Performance Summary
- Login History (Last 30 Days)
- Objectives Completion Summary
- Quiz Performance Summary
- Survey Completion Summary
To change which of the 4 performance indicators are displayed:
- Click on Settings near the right upper corner
- From the drop down menu by a performance indicator you no longer want displayed, select Replace.
- Click on one of the performance indicators you want displayed.
- Press Save and Close.
To change the order of the 4 performance indicators currently displayed:
- Click on Settings near the right upper corner
- From the drop down menu by a performance indicator you want to move, select Move up or Move down.
- Press Save and Close.

To view a detailed report for a user's progress indicator, click the progress indicator.
This will bring up to the matching report for the user in the "User Progress" tool, described below.
Clicking on a student's link will bring up the Progress Summary report in the "User Progress" tool, described below.
User Progress Tool
There are two ways to access the "User Progress" tool for a particular student:
- From the Classlist, select View Progress from the drop-down by the student.
- From the "Class Progress" tool, clicking student's link.
Either way will bring up a "Progress Summary" report for the student in the "User Progress" tool.
For example:
The Summary report provides updates from all of the reports over the Last 7 days, Last 30 days, or All time. Click one of these buttons near the upper right corner to select the desired time span (dark background indicates selected):
Hover your mouse over a bar under "Grades" near the top to view the corresponding Grade item name and percent value.
To bring up one of the other available 9 reports from the student, click on one of the report buttons below the "Summary" button.

Click the "Not Started", "In Progress", "Passed", or "Failed" button to view the Objectives in that category.
- Content
- Discussions
- Dropbox
Hover your mouse over a bar near the top to view the corresponding Dropbox folder name and percent grade earned.
- Quizzes
Hover your mouse over a bar near the top to view the corresponding Quiz name and percent grade earned.
- Checklist
- Surveys
- Login History
Hover your mouse over a bar near the top to view the corresponding date and number of sessions for that date.
Click-able links (turquoise colored) within each report allow you to drill down to obtain more detailed information described in the table below:

Display Options for Progress Tool
You can control some display options for the "User Progress" tool that apply to the course offering you are in:
- Progress Indicators Included
- Color Indicators
Progress Indicators
Progress indicators control which of the available 9 reports are displayed. To change which ones are displayed:

Select Progress from the drop down at the right on the minibar.
(This takes you to "View Progress" for yourself. Alternatively, you may go to "View Progress" for any student in your course.)

Click on Settings near the upper right corner.

In the "Progress Indicators to Include" section, check those you want displayed and un-check those you don't want displayed.

Press Save and Close near the bottom left corner.
Color Indicators
Color indicators control the ranges and colors used for the bars displayed in the Dropbox, Grades, and Quiz performance summaries. Typically, the three rangers are used to visually represent "On Track", "Some Concerns", and "At Risk". To change any of the colors or ranges:

Select Progress from the drop down at the right on the minibar. (This takes you to "View Progress" for yourself. Alternatively, you may go to "View Progress" for any student in your course.)

Click on Settings near the upper right corner.

In the "Color Indicators" section, enter any desired new values for the start of the upper two ranges and/or use the drop-down controls to change any of the colors.
- Press Save and Close near the bottom left corner.
