Atomic Assessments - Creating a Test Assessment (Student Tech Module) [UW-Madison]
Creating this assessment will allow you to verify that your students can see the assessment on their computer.
Creating a Canvas Page
-
From the left side menu bar, navigate to Pages.
-
Then, in the upper left, select View All Pages
-
Next, create a new Page by hitting the +Page button in the upper right corner.
-
Set the title of the page to be how you want it. Here is our suggestion:
-
Type the following text into the editor:
“This course uses a tool called Atomic Assessments to deliver various activities. Below is a test assessment. If you can see it, please answer the question.”
Add the Atomic Assessment
-
To add the Atomic Assessment, click on the plug icon from the editor bar. Then, select View All.
-
In the All Apps window, select Atomic Assessments
-
A new window will appear. Select New Assignment from the button in the upper right corner.
-
Type a descriptive title for the assignment, so you know what it is tied to. Then select Create Assignment.
-
This step is critical! UNcheck Create gradebook entry. This setting cannot be changed once the assignment is created. Since this is a test assignment, do NOT add this to the gradebook.
Adding Content to the Atomic Assessment
-
Next, select the Content tab.
-
From the Content menu, choose True or False.
-
In the area that says “[This is the stem]”, replace the text with:
Can you see this item? Great! Then you can keep the rest of this page for reference later!
-
Then, replace the True and False with Yes and No, respectively.
-
In the end, the assessment should look like the image below:
-
Then, set the correct answer as Yes.
-
Select Save.
-
Once it's done saving, return to Settings in the upper left.
-
Finally, hit Save on this screen to save the assessment to the page.
-
After the assessment has been created, scroll down to the bottom and enter the following message:
If you didn't see an assessment above, please visit this KB article: General Troubleshooting for Learn@UW Tools
-
Then, select Save & Publish in the bottom right.
-
This is how the page should look to you when completed.
