Blue - Completing your Course Evaluations (Student) [UW-Madison]

In this document you’ll learn how to respond to course evaluations in the Blue course evaluation tool as a student.

Navigating to Blue

As a student, there are three ways you can access your course evaluations in Blue.

  • Select the link in the email you are sent when course evaluations open
  • Choose Course Evaluation from the Nav Bar in your Canvas course.
  • Navigate to Blue and log in

You can find instructions for each method in this document.

Opening Your Course Evaluation from your Email

  1. When your course evaluations open, you will receive an email from UW-Madison Student Evaluation (studenteval@doit.wisc.edu), titled: Reminder: Please Complete Your UW–Madison Course Evaluation Surveys.
    Note: You will also receive a reminder email every three days until you complete your evaluation, or until the evaluation closes.
  2. The email will list the name of your course or courses. Select the Please Complete Your UW–Madison Course Evaluation Surveys Complete Your Course Evaluations Now link, listed under your course name. 
  3. Blue will open in your web browser.

Opening Your Course Evaluation from your Canvas Course

  1. Open your Canvas course. 
  2. Select Course Evaluations from the Canvas navigation bar.
    1. Course evaluations will appear on the course’s Canvas navigation bar, unless the instructor chooses to hide it from the menu. 
  3. If there are no evaluations open, you will see the message You have no open course evaluations at this time.

  4. If you have evaluations open, they will be listed on the Canvas Course Evaluations page. The page will show whether the surveys are open or completed. If the survey is open, select the course to open the survey.

Finding Your Course Evaluation in Blue

  1. To open Blue directly, open your web browser and navigate to https://studenteval.wisc.edu. This is also the link that opens if you open Blue from your email or from your Canvas course is https://studenteval-bc.wisc.edu.
  2. Log in with your NetID and password.
  3. On your dashboard, your course evaluations will be listed under My Active Tasks. That section lists the name of the course and the date the survey ends.
  4. Select the Start Now button beside the course name to begin your evaluation

  5. Respond to your evaluation. When you are done, select the Submit button at the bottom of the survey.

Consent Form for Courses Under 5 Students

At the beginning of your evaluation, blue will prompt you with the following message if your course has less than 5 students:

  • This course evaluation is designed to collect feedback to improve instruction and course content. Your input is valuable and participation is completely voluntary. Note: Because this course has fewer than 5 students enrolled, your responses may be identifiable by your instructor. While responses are treated as confidential educational records, complete anonymity cannot be guaranteed due to the small class size. You may decline to participate without any academic consequence. If for any reason you do not feel comfortable providing feedback in this process, please contact assessment@wisc.edu and we will facilitate a different feedback mechanism.
  • By selecting Consent, you acknowledge that you understand your responses may not be anonymous in this small-enrollment course and agree to participate in this evaluation. Please choose Consent or Decline to continue.
  1. To continue with the evaluation, select Consent
  2. If you do not feel comfortable providing feedback, please select Decline. You may contact assessment@wisc.edu if you would like a different feedback mechanism to submit your evaluation.
