Canvas - Known Issue - New Analytics Unavailable on Large Courses

In Canvas, people accessing New Analytics from a large course may see an error message.

When accessing New Analytics in a large course, you may receive an error message stating Sorry, this course is too large to be loaded. This is because the course contains too many students and assignments for New Analytics to load.

"Sorry, this course is too large to be loaded"

Instructure uses a metric called course weight to determine whether Analytics can run in a given course. You can calculate course weight by multiplying the number of students by the number of assignments.

In their testing, they determined that Analytics can process up to a course weight of 50,000. Any courses with a higher course weight may not load. In most cases, you will see a message stating: Sorry, this course is too large to be loaded.

Affects

This issue affects courses with a course weight over 50,000. Course Weight = # of Students X # of Assignments

Workaround

There are currently no workarounds for this issue. However, if your course has a  weight of less than 50,000 and analytics does not load, contact the DoIT Help Desk.
